Form of study: Full-time
Graduate Department: Linguistics and cross-cultural communication
Specialization — Linguistic support of inter-state relations.
Qualification — Specialist (English / German, English / French, English / Spanish, English / Italian).
Required education: general secondary education, secondary specialized (vocational) education.
Entrance Examinations (USE) — English language, Russian language, Russian history.

Students study the theory of linguistics, intercultural communication theory, history of languge, theoretical phonetics, theoretical grammar, lexicology, stylistics, special country studies, practical course of the first and second foreign languages, information technology in professional activities, translation theory, the basics of diplomatic translation, economic translation, technical translation, practical course of consecutive interpretation, simultaneous interpretation, written translation in specific fields (the first and second foreign languages).

Teaching translators we use a combination of modern methods of teaching a foreign language. Competence-based approach is widely applied, with emphasis on various aspects relevant to the communicative competence of a professional linguist. An integrated approach based on an interconnected formation of all kinds of speech activity is implemented. The basis of the training is the communicative activity, constituted by the group training. We use student-oriented methods of training, multi-level training, cooperative training, the method of projects and other interactive techniques.

Training is conducted in specialized classrooms with the use of modern computer and multimedia technologies: the faculty has 4 computer multimedia rooms, 2 language laboratories with digital recorders, a room with 2 booths for simultaneous translation. We have electronic educational materials for sounding text discourse analysis, practical phoenetics, simultenious translation, legal translation, word-building models etc., used for translators training.

On completion of training a specialist translator is able to perform the following professional tasks: implementation of written translation and consecutive interpretation on the instructions of the customer, editing of written translations, relevant paperwork on the results of the performed work; abstracting and annotation of texts, preparation of analytical case reports, reviews and reports on mass media material resources, use of information technology to provide professional (special) activity, study and critical analysis (for occupational purposes) of research materials in the field of linguistics, intercultural communication, translation studies and international relations, conducting of independent research in the given fields in order to increase general professional level, use of the results of research in practice; readiness for constant information and job search engine in order to increase the stock of active translation correspondences, personal enrichment thesaurus of the interpreter, studies of the special terminology in various fields, development of necessary background knowledge.

Specialist translator can continue the education in MA or postgraduate studies.

After graduation a bachelor has the opportunity to teach languages and translation; is capable of cross-cultural communication in a variety of professional fields, has various types and techniques of translation and is able to use them to achieve maximum communicative effect, able to develop training materials; able to identify and critically evaluate the problems affecting the effectiveness of crosscultural contacts, including conflict situations, and to make decisions that ensure the effective resolution of the identified problems.

A bachelor can continue the education in magistracy or graduate school.
