The Faculty of Journalism
The Faculty of Journalism (SUSU) was founded on October 1, 2006. It is one of the youngest faculties in Russia. However, it is famous both in our country and outside its territory. It has three departments:- Media
- The Russian Language and Literature
- Mass Communication
Scientists, lecturers and researchers pay a special attention to such areas as mass communication, media convergence, universal journalism, media linguistics.
Today the international vectors of development characterize the work of postgraduate and doctorate courses at the Faculty. The courses are being adapted for foreign students; scientific postgraduate programmes are being corrected in order to fit the interests of foreign postgraduates (taking into consideration national peculiarities). Besides, teaching foreign students for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in “Philology” (master’s degree programme “Russian literature”) is organized as a preparation for further work on a candidate thesis during the post-graduate course. The Faculty sets special hopes on the International Postgraduate Seminar (involving leading specialists in modern literature and art M.N. Lipovetsky (Colorado, USA), I.L. Savkina (Tampere, Finland) and many others.
At the Faculty of Journalism an innovational course “Modern technologies of controlling public opinion in the international communication field”, that is delivered in English and is aimed at improving professional practical skills of students in the sphere of modern technologies of controlling public opinion in the international communication field and forming the skills in spoken business English, which is crucial for successful development of a young specialist.
Students get acquainted with main tendencies in the sphere of modern international relations and technologies of forming public opinion, study the basics of such communication technologies as propaganda, lobbying, creating an image, and other very important technologies in the modern world, included in the complex of integrated marketing communications.
The editorial office “Inoveshanie” of “SUSU-TV” has become the basis for practical realization of this project. Students not only plunge into business English, but also try their hand in the individual preparation of analytical and image materials in English.
Multimedia newsrooms are united production spaces; there one can find comfortable and rationally located workplaces; rooms are fully equipped for conferences and short meetings; zones for news production for several media. There are several types of newsrooms: - 90, - 180, -270, -360-degrees multimedia integrations.
Today the Faculty of Journalism supports the development of scientific research and serious professional training for educational programmes – “Journalism”, “Philology”, “Advertisement and PR” not only in Russia, but also on the international scale.
